Every year countless people become reluctant sailors, forced onto the deadly sea to escape conflict and persecution. This campaign aims to make these violent, exploitative and deadly sea crossings a thing of the past, and to help give refugees a safer path to asylum by donating to UNHCR.
On World Refugee Day, we’re sharing with you The Reluctant Shanty. The new shanty is based on the experiences of refugees who have embarked on a dangerous journey by sea in search of safety and survived to tell their story. The campaign launched with TikTok superstar Nathan Evans (yes, the original sea shanty guy), followed by some confronting duets from real refugees, before our big reveal moment encouraging everyone to donate to UNHCR.
